Powers: Extra-terrestrial Reptilian
What!?: Space Dragon
Origins: Lockheed is a member of a highly advance alien race and noted hero in their fight against the parasitic Brood. He saved Kitty Pryde when the X-Men where abducted by the Brood and went to live with her in the X-Mansion. Lockheed became Kitty’s longtime companion, even joining Excalibur with her, though he did disappear for a while due to his disapproval of Kitty’s relationship with Peter Wisdom. It was later revealed that Lockheed was a mole for the interstellar anti-terrorist organization S.W.O.R.D., much to the shock of the X-Men, who did not know he could even talk. Lockheed joins S.W.O.R.D. full-time after Kitty Pryde sacrifices herself to save the Earth from an alien weapon, becoming a heavy drinker. Fortunately, Kitty Pryde and Lockheed reunite, with Lockheed landing a teaching position in the new Jean Grey School for Higher Learning.
His Deal: Lockheed is Kitty Pryde’s pet dragon. He was first introduced in a fairy tale told by Kitty Pryde, then added later. Despite his status as a war hero and double-agent, he usually acts like a semi-normal animal. He has also never spoken to the X-Men, even though he is telepathic and understands more languages than Beast. Lockheed has been a longtime associate of the X-Men, a mole for S.W.O.R.D., and a member of the Pet Avengers.
Personality: At first glance, Lockheed is nothing more than a stereotypical dragon, often acting like a cross between a cat and a dog. He tend to be a bit of a prankster, though he can be petty to people he doesn’t like. He tormented Peter Wisdom to no end during when he was dating Kitty Pryde. However, this is all an act. In actuality, Lockheed is a genius with years of tactical experience. Though a hero to his people, his tendency to act independently in his communal-based society made his something of an outcast. This, coupled with years of spying on the X-Men for S.W.O.R.D. have left a heavy weight on his heart. In main form of solace seems to be his relationship with Kitty Pryde, whom he loves unconditionally.
Fun Fact: Lockheed was named after the X-Men’s plane, a Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird.
First Appearance: Uncanny X-Men #166 (1983)
